Sophie's Country Life & Style

Designer Sophie Stanbury recently moved to The Cotswolds.

Cosmetics à la Carte caught up with her to find out how country life has influenced her beauty and style, and to find out how she's getting ready for Christmas this year.

How does country life compare to London?

It’s a much calmer place to be, less traffic, much less noise, there's a slightly less hectic social schedule and the most beautiful surroundings. Absolutely loving my new country dog walks and trips to our local villages.

What do you miss about the city?

I really don’t miss that much, except perhaps the convenience factor for meetings and having everything on your doorstep, but actually overall it's still manageable, I just need to plan my days in town and the train has been great for getting up and down.

In what ways has country life influenced your beauty routine?

I actually keep my beauty routine more or less the same, and I still use the same Cosmetics à la Carte products. Though I have pared back my daily makeup a little I still use all my favourites and always pop on a bit of makeup when I go out, even for a dog walk! Its about making yourself feel good and I always like to look presentable.

How has country life influenced your style and wardrobe?

I have swapped my heels for wellies and I’m loving it! In the country you think more about the practicalities of your day. I normally start with a workout so most days I will pair workout wear and with a big warm jumper. Without the need to get dressed up for meetings, it's so nice to just be cosy.

My new cape designed in collaboration with Bamford elevates every outfit and my new go-to look for a dinner party is black trousers or jeans with boots, a pretty blouse and my Bamford Cape

How will you change up your makeup for the winter party season?

I love going a bit heavier on the smoky eye, adding bit more blush and perhaps a stronger lip but I keep the base the same as I’ve found things that work really well with my complexion, and I think it’s best to stick with them. I love a natural glowing look with a bit of added sparkle.

What outfit are you most looking forward to wearing this party season?

I love my short velvet Alexandre Vauthier dress and I’m sure I’ll add one more party dress to my wardrobe.

What is your favourite family Christmas tradition?

Christmas morning is my absolute favourite, opening stockings together and getting excited for the family day ahead. Also love taking in some Christmas carols at Church on Christmas Eve.

As an interior designer, what are your tips for making a home feel festive?

Above all, I love having a real Christmas tree in the house. We have collected some lovely decorations over the years that don't just look good together, but also mean a lot to us. I also love to put lots of lovely smelling green pine branches and Christmas plants around the house which really add colour and the smell creates a lovely atmosphere. This year I’m thinking of putting some greenery up the staircase as well.
