Vitamin C
How does Vitamin C help your skin?
Vitamin C - also known as l-ascorbic acid - has photoprotective and antioxidative properties and works to reduce hyperpigmentation. Overall, it can be considered an anti-aging super-ingredient, supporting firmer, smoother and more resilient skin.
In multiple in vitro studies, Vitamin C has been shown to increase collagen production and reduce collagen damage.
Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that can neutralise and remove free radicals from pollution, reducing oxidative damage to the skin.
Vitamin C also works to reduce dark spots. Vitamin C derivatives have been shown to decrease melanin synthesis, serving to brighten skin and preventing worsening of existing pigmentation.
The provision of vitamin C to the skin also greatly assists wound healing and minimises raised scar formation.

Vitamin C is notoriously unstable and its potency can decline, so we use the most stable version of Vitamin C called Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate in our formulations, which converts into true Vitamin C - ascorbic acid - in the skin. This also has the benefit of being less sensitizing, so it is better tolerated by the skin. As ever, our passion is for gently effective skincare that works over time, without shocking or upsetting the skin with ingredients that are too strong.
Did you know? Vitamin C first gained attention for its skin health properties when people noticed the poor skin of those with severe nutritional Vitamin C deficiency - scurvy!
