Chelsea Studio FAQs
How do I book?
You can book online any time - click Book An Appointment in the top left hand corner of the menu bar. If you'd prefer to talk to someone, feel free to call our team on 020 7259 9454 or email us at [email protected] To complete your booking we will need your name and a contact telephone number.
What days are your lessons available?
Subject to availability they can be booked on every day of the week, including Sundays.
I just want to shop for products. Do I need a lesson?
You don't need to book a lesson to visit our boutique. Walk in anytime for Tips & Tricks or, to avoid the risk of waiting if we are busy, book in for The Review.
Is there a look book where I select my look?
No, all our looks are bespoke. Before your lesson, you might want to moodboard (e.g. on Pinterest or Instagram) looks that you like to inspire the session, but this is not necessary. Our makeup artists not only show you how to apply makeup, but also use their experience and artistry to suggest options that suit your unique style.
What is the age limit for The Head Start?
This lesson is designed for 13-16 year olds but it may also be valuable for older teens as well, if they have not yet started using makeup. The maximum age limit is 20. If teens have extensive experience in makeup already, we recommend The Masterclass instead to hone their skills further.
Should I come to my lesson wearing makeup?
It’s totally up to you. We start each lesson with a cleanse, tone and prime so we are just as happy starting with skin that is cleansed or made up.
Can we use my own makeup from another brand in the lesson?
No, the terms of our insurance prevent us from using any products or tools other than our own.
I have mature skin. Are these lessons just for young people who can wear anything?
No. One of the many advantages of a bespoke lesson is that we don’t have set techniques and can tailor everything to you.
What is the best lesson for absolute beginners?
Other than The Head Start, we recommend The Refresh for those who don’t feel very confident with makeup yet.
What is the best lesson for natural day makeup?
If you want to start from the ground up, choose The Refresh. If you want new ideas but are already happy with the essentials, choose The Review.
Can I bring a friend?
Absolutely. Your friend is welcome to participate in your session – sometimes it’s really helpful to get a second opinion! If you want to bring more than 1 friend, please contact us in advance to check.
I have a wheelchair/baby buggy, can I bring this with me?
Yes! Our shop is step-free with buggy and wheelchair access, including our WC. We are baby- and child-friendly.
Are drinks provided?
Unlimited hot and cold drinks are available.
Is payment needed to secure my booking?
You don't need to pay in advance for your session, except for The Skin Clinic and The Make-Up Party where we need to secure additional staff in advance.
What is your cancellation policy?
For The Skin Clinic and Makeup Party, where you have paid in advance to secure your booking, we need to arrange for additional staff to be present to complete the session. Therefore, cancellations less than 24 hours before the scheduled time are non-refundable. For all other sessions, there is currently no cancellation charge.
What happens if I arrive late?
If you are more than 15 minutes late for your session we cannot guarantee to complete the service in full. Our team will discuss options with you.
Are your lessons redeemable against purchase?
The Review is redeemable against purchase. Other lessons and services with our experts are not.
Bespoke Blending FAQs
Bespoke Foundation Blending In Store
How much does it cost?
A 1-1 Bespoke Blending Consultation with our makeup artist in-store at our Chelsea studio is free but we do recommend booking an appointment to avoid waiting. This includes a 5-day sample to take home and try if you are not sure. A full-size bespoke blend is £60 the first time you order, and whenever you need a top-up.
What happens in the consultation?
Our makeup artists will ask questions about your skin type and the look you want to achieve. They suggest some options for you to try, creating them on a palette right in front of you. They cleanse away any makeup you are wearing and test the sample on your face. Our lighting is specially designed to mimic natural daylight and ensure the most accurate match.
When you are happy with the blend, we hand blend a full size while you watch. There are no machines, only years of training, expertise and a passion for perfection. Every one of our team is professionally qualified with over 5 years’ experience.
If you choose a compact or mineral foundation, these are made at our London lab and delivered within 48 hours.
I’m nervous about taking my makeup off, can you do a bespoke blend using just a swatch on my hand?
The most natural match can, in our experience, only be found with testing on the skin of your face. For this reason, we only offer our satisfaction guarantee on bespoke blended foundation if you have tried the foundation on your face. Please be assured we are a friendly, judgement-free bunch of makeup artists who just want to help! Our boutique is quiet and private, not like a department store or hair salon. A private room is also available on request.
Can I reapply the rest of my makeup afterwards?
Once you’re happy with your foundation, and even if you’re not sure, we’ll make sure to help you with any finishing touches of additional make-up, so you walk out looking and feeling great. We use our own products; the terms of our insurance mean we can’t use your own makeup.
I don’t live in London, can I get a bespoke blend foundation or concealer?
Bespoke blending cannot be done at a distance, but we have a great range of beautiful ready to wear blends available to sample online, across all our formulas. Purchase our foundation sample set and redeem the cost against your first full size purchase.
Can I still get a bespoke foundation if I’m allergic to some ingredients?
Absolutely. Please just give us specific information about your concerns when you make your booking, such as ingredients you must avoid, so our recommendations in your consultation will exclude them. If you are allergic to an ingredient commonly included in our formulations, we will consult with our lab team on the possibility of offering you a reformulated product without the offending ingredient.
