Set For The Season

Cosmetics à la Carte’s founder Lynne Sanders on what it takes to look your best as Spring turns to Summer and the party seasons gets underway.

My favourite months of the year are May and June. They are always filled with the expectation of long summer days ahead and exciting events, weddings and other special occasions to enjoy. Many of these take place outdoors and always need easy, long-lasting and comfortable makeup looks, so I have created a series of tips for event looks which you can easily recreate at home.

To keep makeup looking fresh all day long wear a mattifying primer under your makeup. I blended natural oil-balancing proteins and absorbent minerals to create Matte Miracle, a favourite of professional make-up artists for keeping skin dewy without becoming oily under hot lights. Apply Matte Miracle to clean skin to keep shine at bay for your summer event. Avoid richly nourishing moisturisers as these may cause your foundation to ‘slip’.

Prime The Eyelids

Even waterproof eye makeup can begin to smudge after a warm day, as the natural oils produced by your lids act like a cleanser. Delay this process by wearing mineral powder eyeshadow, and priming your lids with a neutral base shade before applying your liner. Depending on your skin tone, try Matte Eye Define in Beige, Sand or Salmon. Shimmer can be soft and flattering too, try Shimmer Eye Define in Bisque, Champagne or Melon.

Wear A Statement Lip

Strong eye makeup can seem over-powering in natural light, so consider making lips the stand-out part of your look. Spring and summer weather lend themselves to bright, playful colours. You can interpret this subtly with a Sheer Balm lipstick such as Melon, Candy or Camelia, or boldly with Moisture Plus Lipstick in Coral, Pimento or Floribunda.

Focus On Cheek Colour

We may think of bronzer when we think about spring and summer beauty, but blusher is key to ensuring a fresh and lively look to offset and enhance a statement lipstick. Embrace a bright shade and try Bare Blush cream blush or Blush Touch powder blush in new shade Azalea. Apply from the centre of the ‘apple’ of the cheek outwards, sweeping in an upward motion. Keep the face either side of the nose and mouth completely clear. Layer the look with a warm apricot shimmer over the cheekbones such as Blush Touch Moonbeam.
