Allergies

The best way forward

If you suffer from allergic responses and want to know which ingredient is causing the problem, contact a dermatologist (through your doctor or a personal recommendation) and arrange to be patch tested.

Regulations mean that all ingredients are listed on cartons or websites or at the point of sale.

Allergies are very distressing and the worst thing of all is to be brushed off with the remark 'Oh just leave all that muck off your face'.

Most of us have a problem with some sort of allergy at some stage in our lives and sometimes it can be directly associated with certain drug therapies, something you eat or particularly challenging and stressful events in your life. Nevertheless we need to find out which ingredient or product is the trigger.

In our experience, this can be almost anything, even water or strawberries. Surfactants (foaming cleansers,) can be a problem because they clean the skin so efficiently and it loses  it's natural sebum protection. Sunscreens (except the mineral variety) are pretty tough chemicals and could produce sensitivity particularly around the eyes as can nail enamel.  Some perfumes can be very irritant as can natural oils, simply because they are actives.

Most dermatologists will recommend Petroleum jelly BP as a temporary skin protector for badly inflamed skin. As a mineral oil it is chemically inert and unlikely to make matters worse.

If you are unlucky enough to find that you are allergic to something used widely in cosmetics, we can make a Bespoke re-formulation of one of our products leaving out the problem ingredient(s). A number of our cosmetics are  available without perfume or preservatives

BESPOKE PRODUCT FORMULATION £100 WITH ORDER (REORDERS £47)
